DARE
This is a picture of julie explaining how a cigarette works. No, she was not smoking it. but she did ask if anyone wanted to. She told us how there are hundreds of deadly ingredients inside that can lead to many deadly diseases. They are horrible, painful things cigarettes and the only reason why they are legal is because there is so much money involved for the government.

Words of wisdom
two of the most meaningful words of wisdom sentencies to me are:
A strong man sticks up for himself but a stronger one sticks up for others!
No one can ruin your day without your permission.
I find that the first one is powerful because it teaches people that you are strong to stick up for others.
The secondly it is up to you to let what someone says hurt you. If you focus on the good things then you will be truly happy.

My Argument Writing
In my point of view corporal punishment is always wrong and absolutely disgusting form of discipline. Children are forced to work in fear of their own teacher or parent , which personally I find cruel and unjust. These are some of the reasons why corporal punishment should be abolished in every country around the world and we will never have to look back. The definition of corporal punishment is the physical punishment of people, especially by hitting or beating them. Even in a dictionary it is threatening.
Corporal punishment was abolished throughout New Zealand in 1990. This was around the same time as the human Rights act was increasing around the world. They decided that every human should be treated fairly and with respect. Sadly this wasn’t the case for seven year old hazel Yeates who was adopted at the age of four. Several years later was whipped to death after many hour: yet no one knows what she did wrong or what she did to upset the adopters. I think that you will agree with my point that this was not at all a fair treatment for the little girl. Furthermore when a elementary student is killed by his football coach for more reasons unknown right in front of the children's eyes. When people are killed ruthlessly by people whom you are supposed to trust or to love. How is this discipline? What will this teach them?
2If people all around you are told to “Sit down and shut up!” It will probably happen. But when you are yanked by the ear just after asking for a pen with the teacher red faced and steaming mad. Then suddenly forced to stand in front of all your friends and class-mates, and get thrown to the front of the class and strapped right around the hand this slowly depletes the happiness and confidence inside the class room that you need to learn properly within.
In conclusion corporal punishment is a horrible form of disciplinary action which can be used unfairly and stupidly. It ruins your self-esteem and prevents any extra help needed while learning. There are so many other ways to put people inline. Such as in school suspension, responsibility activities. If all else fails things like boot camp will help with the serious cases. This is my view on how corporal punishment is the wrong way to teach a child: therefore should be banned and recognized as a form of child abuse worldwide.

DARE: Day 2
Day 2 of the DARE programme was fun and educational. First we talked
about strategies in life and making the right choices when it comes to
friends. Also we talked about the different groups of drugs, both legal
and illegal, and the different side effects and dangers. We all learned a
lot! Here are some pictures.
My art drawing
This is a pice of drawing we did for 2nd perspective art. I enjoyed making the pathway and road. But got extremely frustrated with power polls of all things.

D A R E
Today was our first lesson with Constable Julie , a local police women who came to help the class with a inquiry topic called DARE. Dare is a three week corse about drugs, alcohol and making right choices. This lesson was to teach us about what we can do with our lives and putting us on the right pathway for life. We were told that who we were was plainly up to us. Then asked what our goal in life was. Personally mine was to open a recording studio, even though it is a declining business my honest obsession with music compels me to overcome those challenges.
The rest of this corse looks extremely fun and defiantly educational. Plus im sure will help in the future if we are faced with any life problems like drugs and alcohol.

My writing test.
This is my Astle writing test. The test was based on character descriptions I had done mine on Romeo from Romeo and Juliet. I noticed I have improved since the start of the year needing help. Even though I will have to work on my proofreading, occasional spelling errors and raising my punctuation level. My assessment says that I had great ideas and a personal voice.

Dear Abby Letters
Dear Abby
My best friend (Romeo) has this... Well problem. But before is start don’t get me wrong Romeo is an extremely good friend, and a great guy, but I honestly do think something in his head is seriously messed up. It all started one night when he was in love with some good looking woman called Roseline. So being the amazing friend I amI decided upon taking him to a Capuliet party to get his eye on another chick. The only thing is that we are at war with these Capuliets. We only because this Roseline didn’t return his love. Sadly it worked too well, because now that he found this other girl his head is full of all these irritating lovey dovey thoughts. I’m losing my best friend to a Capuliet! The guy I’ve pretty much known since birth is slipping away from me just because of he can’t bear to be parted from her. And all he does is sits in his room dreaming about her. I don’t care if she is a Capuliet or not. Come to think of it he is really doing damage to himself. I beg from the bottom of my heart to help me get my closest friend back before I loose him forever!
Sincerely, friend in need.
Dear Friend.
I completely understand how you feel about this whole situation, but honestly you just need to toughen up. Romeo obviously has a lovers personality and you just need to except that. Try make an effort to meet his needs, you must approach him try compromise on a subject to talk about. Also do things you both enjoy. If you think on his side you would be changing instead of him. This teen seems to have matured over time either way I’m sure that he is the same kid you both grew up with on the inside.

Romeo
Romeo Montague is a very charming, peaceful, caring, quick witted
16 year old teen. He is appealing to all kinds of women (especially Juliet.) He has a smile to die for with a beautiful and delicate personality.
Personally I think that Romeo isn’t the best looking guy in Verona but he does have some good looks. From his silky brown hair down to his stocky chest build, Then to the legs hidden inside those skinny old tights of his.
Romeo’s social life over the past couple of weeks has gone severely downhill. Recently he hasn’t been going to any parties, and has been abandoning all of his friends because his lovesick brain wont stop thinking about this extremely annoying Capulite called Juliet. Will he ever realize we don’t care much for Juliet? Normally, all Romeo does in his spare time is walk around chat to friends about the Capulites and Juliet. Juliet, Juliet, Juliet, will he ever stop! Then he goes home and moans about something else to do will not being able to see her. But all in all I won’t lie he is still a very good friend. He sticks up for others, searches for peace and tries to find the good in everyone he has ever met.
Romeo being the son of lord Montague is really living the dream. I mean being one of the richest men in Veriona must have its perks since he lives in a fancy castle with over one hundred servants at his feet must feel extraordinary. But I find it strange how he is the son of the great lord Montague because he is nothing like him at all. This particular teenager has so much but all he really wants and needs is his lust for Juliet to be satisfied and to me Mequisheo his best friend it seems almost amazing how obsessed.
In conclusion Romeo is a great guy. Almost always happy, is a charm to the ladies and has a good thought and opinion on literally anything and everything! So I think if you are a women who’s looking for someone to love. That absolutely certain you can sweep this young man off his feet and away from this Juliet. He would not let you down.

Carbon Cycle V2
Carbon it is in every living thing and is all around us. You will probably want to know. What it is? How does it affect us? Is it important? Well, this piece of writing will explain what Carbon is. Plus how the Carbon Cycle keeps everything on this Earth functioning.
One part of the Carbon Cycle is called Decomposition. This is where the plants and animals that have stored carbon inside themselves die and eventually start to decompose. Then they break down into smaller matter. This causes the release of all the stored carbon inside its self. Into the atmostsphere.
Another part of this cycle is called respiration, this is a big part for humans. It is also known as breathing. Respiration can be from plants, aquatic animals and humans. When we inhale we are taking in oxygen and letting out Carbon Dioxide. All living matter does this, and will release Carbon Dioxide out of there bodies and into the air.
When trees and other Carbon things fall into a lake, river or the sea the Carbon inside will move with it. So when it falls underwater it either biodegrades while it’s sinking. Otherwise it will degrade and become part of the underwater soil for plant life.
Photosynthesis is when a plant takes in the Carbon around it and it gets stored inside itself. That is when the plant uses sunlight to transform the carbon into oxygen.
Compaction is the stage when all the Carbon inside things like fossils and dead trees have sunk underground and are compacted to precious minerals like Oil and Coal. These minerals are being taken above ground to be used by humans to power homes, run cars and for other cheap manufacturing goods. When we do all of these things we are releasing Carbon into the atmostsphere.
Humans are releasing Carbon Dioxide into the air much faster than when we were not around. The cycle may become unbalanced if we keep using our carbon resources like this, our planet will not function properly.

NYLD//12
On Monday 1400 students from all around the north island came to the National Young leaders Day at the Michell Fowler centre. Young Leaders Day is an organization were inspirational people from New Zealand come to tell people how any one can become something big. All you have to do is just ignite the spark inside of you.
The first inspirational person who spoke to us was a man called Nick Tuitasi who had to take responsibility at a early stage in his life. When his mother died he had to look after his father and let the man live with him. He later went on to join the police academy were he experienced a near death experience with some good friends on a training camp. Were he became a true leader and help every one get through the freezing nights. That is what sparked his true potential of leadership.
Secondly a young man called Jamie Fitzgerald had a real spark for what he loved. Jamie accomplished many things in his life from winning a inter Tasman rowing compition to walking into the middle of the south pole. He said that when ever life gets hard, keep rowing. But never let performance get in the way of safety.
Afterwards a woman called Cassandra Treadwell came on who went to Africa saw the poverty and illness that had stricken the land and decided to take action by building orphanages, schools and small land crops to help the children of Africa on by one. She said that if you believe in your self others will to
Then Cam Calkoen went on. Cam is an extraordinary man who decided to dream big and achieve even bigger. From birth he has been stricken with cerebral palsey which put him on the autism spectrum. but that didn’t slow him down the tiniest bit. he joined the school sprinting team and started to excel at the entire sporting area. He later on became an Olympic champion and started winning medals. Thats when he decided to overcome his biggest fear. Public speaking. Cal speaks in front of hundreds of people to show that your true potential is some were inside of you
Dave Atkinson went on stage not as a man who achieved great things in his life but just a normal man who was a graphic designer, but thew away all of it so he could speak to children about how to make you become a leader. Dave’s childhood shaped what he does now he learnt things that he could carry on through his life and share to other people. He knew to stick up for what it right, because of what he saw people do to each other. Chose good friends. This is because the friends he hung out with when he was young got involved in doing the wrong things he slowly noticed himself doing them to.
I personally think that what makes a good leader is defiantly lighting the spark of potential inside of us. it brings out the best of what anyone can do. All you would need is to to live life to the fullest. Follow these things, have some one to look up to will make a goal for being the best that you can be. Finally just go with the wind grab as many opportunities as possible, be a great friend, do the right things. Then maybe some day you will be a hero to another kid.
The thing I would do if I could do anything and couldn’t fail I would start another music revolution Because if music has gone from classical to blues to rock and roll then grunge and so on, who knows what would be next.

What Is The Carbon Cycle
Did you know that we breathe the same air that there was from the start of the earth? The reason why is all because of the Carbon Cycle. It keeps us alive, it makes us breathe and keeps life functioning.
Carbon is an element (scientifically known as Carbon Dioxide or CO2). Like Hydrogen and Oxygen. When you inhale the air around you are also breathing in Oxygen while you are breathing in the Carbon, which you are exhaling afterwards. Carbon follows a cycle that is called the Carbon Cycle. This keeps plants alive and helps us live our lives to the fullest.
The cycle all begins when either a plant or any other living thing dies and starts decomposing. Otherwise it will start from trees or plant life that are burning. Lastly it will be from a life form of some sort breathing in air. This is releasing carbon into the air.
The next stage of this cycle is when the Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere. Meaning that it will float around. Soon after it will be either absorbed into the water were it will dissolve at the bottom of the sea, or otherwise it will be absorbed inside a plant. The way this is happening is from the plants going through an important stage for its life called photosynthesis. This is where it takes in; sunlight, water, minerals in the soil and other things it needs to grow to its full height and survive.
Finally last stage of this cycle is when the Carbon is set free from a plant that has fallen or been burnt. Therefore all the Carbon will be extracted from the plant and at that stage the cycle starts all over again.
This process can go on from anywhere between days, months or even years. If we ever needed a new planet you will need the Carbon cycle or else life in its self couldn’t exist there.

What Is The Water Cycle
Do you ever wonder why the water never runs out? The reason why is because the Water Cycle keeps it all flowing. It gives us life, it helps trees and other life thrive. This is what keeps life running at its best.
The first stage of the Water Cycle is where water from the seas and the lakes evaporates and transforms into vapor. This makes it a gas. Once it is a gas it rises upwards towards the sky. Meanwhile the vapor is cooling and collecting with more of the condensation turning the water into clouds.
When weather like: snow, rain hail etc fall from the clouds water is evaporates off trees and other plant life at the same rate as the other sources of water. Following the same pattern of the cycle as lakes, rivers and streams.
When all this condensation is built up, it starts to form a cloud. The clouds starts to become heavier. Eventually they have to release all the water that it has stored. Clouds do this by releasing all its storage making precipitation (Also known as rain).
The mountains and valleys gather all the water that has fallen from the clouds forming streams and rivers. This water flows back down to the sea. Another way that the water gets to the sea is from something called subsurface (underground) runoff which happens when the water is absorbed underground and goes through channels to the sea.
The Water Cycle has always happened. It is vital that the water cycle continues how it is going now, otherwise life will cease to exist and humans will come to a slow end. So be greatful for what you have and hope that the cycle will live on forever.

Te Whiti-o-Rongomai
Te Whiti-O-Rongomai was born in a small village close to Parihaka called Ngamotu, during 1830. He was the son of a minor chief in the Te Ati Awa tribe. As he grew older he attended Reminschiners Mission School, and excelled at Biblical studies. His family lived on the coast near Parihaka when Pakiha Burnt down his home village. Then he moved into the settlement of Parihaka.
After Te Whiti left school he set up a flour mill at Wera. Te Whiti Was a very spiritual man, sometimes known as a prophet or a religious teacher. Te Whiti never wanted to take up arms and never did. He helped protect passengers of the Lord Worlesy from rival tribes, during the 1870’s Parihaka had been the biggest village in the country. Ten years later Europeans started invading the land. They took land from the Maori and started treating people unfairly. The Europeans murdered tortured and harassed the Maori. That was when Te Whiti and relative Tohu decided to fight for their rights as Maori people. After protesting several times to the government two government officials came to discuss peace. After two hours Te Whiti and Tohu were taken to prison.
It was 1888 when Te Whiti was released from prison he returned to Parihaka. That was when the town started massively developing. With hot and cold water storm drains and street lighting. Te Whiti had helped with it all from the skills he had learned about technology when he was in prison. He showed this to his people.
Te Whiti died of old age in his home while he was sleeping But what will never die is the mark they left on New Zealand history. It is amazing that what he fought for never gave up. Even at the hardest and darkest times he never used violence to solve problems. I believe that his spirit will live in Parihaka forever.

Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix Biography
Jimi Allen Hendrix was born on the west coast of Seattle Washington USA on the 27th of November 1942. He is said to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Jimi’s life was tough; his mum died when he was ten. He was very poor, especially in the winter because his dad was a garden mower and it got pretty bad when there wasn’t any grass to cut. He had very poor school grades and he dropped out very early. But all he said he wanted to do was to play the guitar.
The Vietnam War was approaching and Jimi decided to sign up to Airborne 101 to get it done and over with. So he could continue with what he loved, that was being a being a musician. He had written a letter to his dad saying every thing was fine but “can you please send my guitar, I really need it.”
Then one day during a training run he broke his ankle on a zip line. He pretended that his back was injured too. So when they examined him he groaned and cried. They sent him home a few months before the Vietnam War began.
After his ordeal he started playing at cafés, bars and on the street. This was where he learnt most of his skills and riffs.
Later on in his life he was invited to play with a small touring band called The Isley Brothers. But he got bored, wanted his own scene plus found it annoying playing the same thing again and again. After a show another band had invited him to play a few gigs called Little Richard but the main singer didn’t treat him well or pay him well and said that only he could be on the front of the stage and wear the best out-fits. So Jimi ditched the band and went solo and he won first place in the Apollo amateur guitarist competition. shortly afterwards he was believed to be back stage when a old army friend Billy Cox had gave him the phone numbers for bass player Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell and soon and formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience. “ I want to call it Experience so that people will experience my music” Jimi said. during an interview.
Jimi continued to write music. In 1966 he had his first official tour through America. After many months they released Bold as Love, their first record. In Jimi Hendrix’s short career he had been given many death threats mainly because of jealousy and racism then releasing the song burning houses to resemble the Coo Klutz Clan the biggest racism group of all time. This effected him significantly and had one attempt at suicide which had failed.
1967 is when Jimi Hendrix’s career took off. Releasing a new inspiring record called Electric Lady land. After two years he split up with the Jimi Hendrix Experience up and joined a band called Band of Gypsies. By 1970 his career was coming to an end. He was requested to play at a rock festival. During his last song he decided to play the national anthem on full distortion, which to me personally and many people meant the anthem of rock.
Jimi Hendrix lived a short famous career on four years of real fame and glory. On 18th of September 1970 he passed away in his apartment in London from a drug over dose. This made one of the most tragic loses for his time and his legacy will live for ever. Jimi had brought much through his generation bringing a new era of music even today his music is still remembered and appreciated.

Letter To The Board
Room 22
Muritai Road
Eastbourne
14.2.12
Dear Board of Trustees and Mr Bird
I am writing to you with a request for new desks for our class room.
Firstly the tables we are currently using are damaged, scratched and uncomfortable. therefore they are are an inadequate learning station With graffiti on desks this makes our room feel uninviting and not a respected place for learning.
Secondly without desks and with tote trays every time we go to get books and stationery the back of the class room it becomes cramped and congested. Making it a slower time to get ready to learn.
Equity is an important subject at this school. So it is only fair that we get equity for the standard of our class room too. year 4 to 6 currently have lift up desks and both classes next to us have pull out desks.
These desks are inadequate as they are unsightly and uncomfortable. Please consider or request and make it happen for us.
Yours sincerely,
Tom Walsh.
