On Monday 1400 students from all around the north island came to the National Young leaders Day at the Michell Fowler centre. Young Leaders Day is an organization were inspirational people from New Zealand come to tell people how any one can become something big. All you have to do is just ignite the spark inside of you.
The first inspirational person who spoke to us was a man called Nick Tuitasi who had to take responsibility at a early stage in his life. When his mother died he had to look after his father and let the man live with him. He later went on to join the police academy were he experienced a near death experience with some good friends on a training camp. Were he became a true leader and help every one get through the freezing nights. That is what sparked his true potential of leadership.
Secondly a young man called Jamie Fitzgerald had a real spark for what he loved. Jamie accomplished many things in his life from winning a inter Tasman rowing compition to walking into the middle of the south pole. He said that when ever life gets hard, keep rowing. But never let performance get in the way of safety.
Afterwards a woman called Cassandra Treadwell came on who went to Africa saw the poverty and illness that had stricken the land and decided to take action by building orphanages, schools and small land crops to help the children of Africa on by one. She said that if you believe in your self others will to
Then Cam Calkoen went on. Cam is an extraordinary man who decided to dream big and achieve even bigger. From birth he has been stricken with cerebral palsey which put him on the autism spectrum. but that didn’t slow him down the tiniest bit. he joined the school sprinting team and started to excel at the entire sporting area. He later on became an Olympic champion and started winning medals. Thats when he decided to overcome his biggest fear. Public speaking. Cal speaks in front of hundreds of people to show that your true potential is some were inside of you
Dave Atkinson went on stage not as a man who achieved great things in his life but just a normal man who was a graphic designer, but thew away all of it so he could speak to children about how to make you become a leader. Dave’s childhood shaped what he does now he learnt things that he could carry on through his life and share to other people. He knew to stick up for what it right, because of what he saw people do to each other. Chose good friends. This is because the friends he hung out with when he was young got involved in doing the wrong things he slowly noticed himself doing them to.
I personally think that what makes a good leader is defiantly lighting the spark of potential inside of us. it brings out the best of what anyone can do. All you would need is to to live life to the fullest. Follow these things, have some one to look up to will make a goal for being the best that you can be. Finally just go with the wind grab as many opportunities as possible, be a great friend, do the right things. Then maybe some day you will be a hero to another kid.
The thing I would do if I could do anything and couldn’t fail I would start another music revolution Because if music has gone from classical to blues to rock and roll then grunge and so on, who knows what would be next.
